2004 The Sultans Tent & Cafe Moroc
Moroccan restaurant and bar reborn and luxuriously refurbished in the Toronto theatre district. As with all the materials we produced for the two (combined) restaurants we used a type face, Tagliente. We modified it to work as a logo. We felt Tagliente has an Arabic feel. The palm trees were from an engraving in an over 100 year old book we have in our extensive family library.
We added the camels when our printer Jay Mandarino said, "If it is Arabic you have to have camels." Turned out he was right. The restaurants were successful and we won awards for our work. Go to our print, signage and website galleries on this site to see some of the other materials.
Creative ideas can come from everyone you work with. Know your objectives ... and be open to listen.
There were a lot of elements to this project: web, advertising, signage and print etc. The camel images here (from the menu of the original uptown restaurant) helped make all this communication be more successful.

This logo was included in a printed book of logos by RGDs. The logo selection was by a number of senior RGDs who acted as curators.
