You May Not Always Succeed but...
Service clubs can be a lot of fun. At our Toronto Progress Club we decided to go for a Guiness World Record. Just as a club in Quebec had. Our goal: The Biggest Box of Popcorn in the World :) We would sell bags of popped corn at the CNE to people so they could add them to the "big box." Members negotiated with the CNE and got approval for doing this in one of the CNE main buildings. A young architect member designed a viable "box." We found a supplier for the corn. Another member had a promotions company, thus the apron. The graphics by Rod helped negotiations.
But then the CNE management decided to move us to an outside location.
Popcorn in the rain...s-h-r-i-n-k-s ):
So we had to abandon. But it was a lot of fun organizing this. We all made a lot of friends and valued new relationships (meaning new clients). After...we all agreed it was well worth the effort. |

Rod was President of the Toronto Club and as such was elected Man of the Year in Ontario. And the Toronto club was elected Club of the Year :)
Liz and Rod found being members of organizations not related to design helped our business because members learned to like working with us and would then hire us as their designers.
