Mid 1960s Branding for Two National (Australian) Products: Ad Agency, J. Walter Thompson (Melbourne)
Rod was the graphic designer on these projects. And he created one of a kind hand drawn typefaces for the logos for the national branding of these wool products. This visual branding was integrated throughout all the other advertising and promotional materials. This was a new strategy for major ad agencies in the mid 1960s.
Rod and his friend Barton Gole instigated this (they had been students at RMIT together). When they started working (for two different Ad Agencies in downtown Melbourne) they lunched together three or four times a week and realized their same clients, one with advertising and one with collateral, were trying to sell with quite different messaging. Roger Kennedy the agency Creative Director hired Rod and allowed Rod & Barton to proceed with integrating advertising with clients collateral. It proved to be an effective strategy.
