Research, Helps Create Design that Works for Clients (and Helped Us Keep Them Long Term).
From the early 1970s into the 1990s Nash & Nash produced many corporate Identity Manuals. Some shown in this Corporate ID section. These were used in company locations spread across North America.
One point we’d like to emphasize, that we think is as relevant today as way back, is the need for good research when designers are working with a particular client to do a branding roll out and e.g. (now digital) guide. In the early 1970s our research showed that a number of companies were not happy with the ID Manuals designers had produced for them e.g. boxes of expensively produced manuals were thrown out - or unused and sitting in their warehouses because the designers had not allowed for page additions and changes to be easily and inexpensively made as the companies evolved and changed. (See images below at right re examples of hard to update page bindings.)

Many companies evolve over time changing things like the company description, the tagline, sometimes even partnering in some way with another firm. Changes can be unforeseen & happen quickly. Upfront in our process it helped that we made allowance for managing changes and additions. All this meant we kept many long term relationships. In a sense we became like in-house designers for a number of companies.
